BURN CIC is a membership based not-for-profit organisation which exists to tackle the persistent racial inequalities that impact people of African descent in Greater Manchester and the north through growing the number of Black leaders in senior decision making positions, developing Black businesses to become contract and export ready, and growing trade links with Africa and the Caribbean.

We now have an exciting opportunity to join us as an Outreach Officer on a fixed term (until April 2022), part time (three days a week) basis, with the opportunity to extend further.

You will be responsible for developing and leading on the BURN outreach programme. You will be experienced in outreach methods and tools, will lead on the relationship development and acquisition of organisations and individuals and the continued management of existing relationships that have already been secured.

We are looking for a confident individual, with excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience of developing relationships that will help our organisation to grow its network effectively. The delivery of a high level of customer service will be key to this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

You will be required to:-

  1. Devise and implement a programme of outreach and engagement activities ensuring that targets and milestones are achieved
  2. Building strong relationships with grassroot organisations, businesses, professionals and other stakeholders
  3. Work with our procurement expert to map current and future public procurement opportunities
  4. Engage with best fit Black-led VCSE organisations and businesses across the city region
  5. Conduct a training & development needs analysis to transition them into bespoke capacity building interventions
  6. Facilitate consortium working and partnerships
  7. Organise intimate Meet The Buyer activities
  8. Act as a point of contact for businesses, professionals and other external parties contacting BURN about widening participation activity.
  9. Deliver presentations on BURN activities across the city region
  10. Liaise with collaborative outreach partners about the delivery of outreach activities
  11. Contribute to the production of marketing and training materials in a variety of media to support delivery of training activity in consultation with partners.
  12. Arrange and attend widening participation events for BURN as part of collaborative work with other partner organisations across the region.
  13. To represent BURN and widening participation within external forums.
  14. Attend relevant outreach and networking events across the city region

You must have:-

  1. Experience of organising or helping to organise events
  2. Proven knowledge of outreach strategies, techniques and approaches that deliver results
  3. Budgetary and resources management skills
  4. Professional and business contacts within the Greater Manchester business ecosystem
  5. Experience in data capture, compiling and circulating progress reports on activity against targets
  6. Expertise in managing communications including responding to queries
  7. Strong project management, budgetary control and resource management skills
  8. A professional manner and attitude
  9. Good written and oral communication skills
  10. Experience of public speaking
  11. Excellent organisation skills
  12. Ability to work on own initiative and to deadlines
  13. Ability to work as part of a team
  14. Flexibility and adaptability
  15. IT literate: Familiar with using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, project management software and web applications including email, e-marketing, s-surveys, e-discussion groups, etc.
