A capacity building programme to develop contract ready Black VCSEs & businesses to win public sector contracts!
Restore Strengthen & Scale Up is a FREE contract readiness programme to build the capacity of African and Caribbean businesses and organisations who want to be equipped with skills, competences and know-how to win £100k+ public sector contracts to become stronger, more resilient and bigger.
The public sector spends £250 billion and Central Government £49 billion per year on goods and services. UK government has announced plans to ringfence 10% of its spend for the VCSE sector through what is known as social value commissioning, with Black and Asian organisations a key priority.
We want to ensure that Black-led VCSEs and business owners can access opportunities to become direct suppliers to the public sector, form consortiums or join supply chains to grow their resilience and sustainability and become less reliant on grant funding.
But to do that, they need to understand how public procurement works and how to equip the organisation for success. That’s what our bespoke Restore Strengthen and Scale Up contract readiness Programme is all about.
We’ve teamed up with mainstream procurement specialists Star Procurement to deliver joint programmes and provide access to a wealth of Resources. Delivery will be online, and tender opportunities will be posted on the Digital Marketplace.
The FREE service is targeted at Black organisations that are majority owned and led by people of African and Caribbean descent with lived experiences.
The programme will include interactive and engaging events where black businesses and VCSEs can:
Meet with public sector buyers to better understand what buyers are looking for and get helpful tips on how to maximise their chances of contract success
Meet larger private contractors looking to diversify their supply-chain
Network with other businesses to find partners willing to come together to bid for projects that might be too large for a single business (known as Collaborative Bidding)
Engage in round table discussions to re-imagine changes that public sector buyers can introduce to improve working relationships with black owned businesses
Enjoy non-executive director style support from an Advisory Board made up of leaders and senior managers from larger businesses.
BURN members will benefit from additional one-to-one tender surgeries can be arranged online or on a drop-in basis to provide additional tendering support.
We plan to engage with local and (inter) national businesses with larger buying potential to encourage them to open up their supply chains to black owned businesses that have been through BURN’s business-fitness programme, a comprehensive service focused on making suppliers business-ready.
